M77, NGC 1055 and NGC 1073

Closeup of the three major galaxies:

One interesting thing about NGC 1073 is that its field of view is crossed by three quasars. Below is a blowout of NGC 1073 indicating the location of the three quasars (the image looks a bit different because I took it from a previous step during the processing):

COMMENTS
There aren't many nebulas that, with barely a few seconds exposure, would let you get the amount of detail you see in this image. In fact, I think Orion would be the only one. This closeup of the trapezium was tone-mapped to give the image more depth and impact.

COMMENTS
In this trip to Henry Coe I brought a friend who had never "experienced" astrophotography before. Although I don't think I've got him hooked into the hobby, he had a lot of fun :-) This Rosette wasn't too hard to process. The object is not only huge but also fairly bright.
